Awareness
The lawful, ethical and safe governance of restrictive equipment and mechanical restraint.

Restrictive equipment.
Clear accountability.
Mechanical restraint is one of the most restrictive interventions a service can use. Where it is considered, it must be lawful, necessary, proportionate, properly authorised and closely monitored.
This awareness programme helps teams understand the framework around restrictive equipment, the risks involved and the governance needed to keep people safe and practice defensible.
Why this training matters
Restrictive equipment carries significant physical, psychological and human rights risks. Use without clear authorisation, monitoring and review exposes people to harm and services to serious regulatory concern.
Staff and leaders need a shared understanding of when restriction may be justified, how it is overseen and how its use is reduced over time.
Teams in higher-risk settings.
This programme is designed for health and social care teams, managers and leaders working in services where restrictive equipment may be used or considered.
It is relevant to complex-care, mental health, secure and higher-risk environments.
From awareness to accountable practice.

Awareness grounded in governance.
Legal and ethical principles are combined with practical scenarios drawn from real service settings.
Depending on the agreed programme, delivery may include facilitated theory, case-based discussion, governance and recording exercises, knowledge checks, reflective review and trainer feedback.
This is an awareness programme. It does not authorise the use of restrictive equipment and does not replace service-specific risk assessment, policy, supervision or clinical decision-making.
