Positive Handling &
Behavioural Support
Prevention, behavioural understanding, de-escalation and proportionate responses to distress.
Endorsed by Beaumont Ridge Care Group
Delivered by Beaumont Ridge Training Academy
Understanding distress.
Supporting safer practice.
Positive handling is not simply about physical intervention. Safe practice begins with understanding the person, recognising signs of distress early and using proactive, proportionate and least restrictive responses.
This programme brings together behavioural understanding, Positive Behaviour Support, communication, de-escalation, dynamic risk assessment and post-incident learning.
Why this training matters
Positive handling should not be reduced to physical techniques. Safe practice depends on understanding what may be contributing to distress, recognising escalation early and using the least restrictive response available.
Staff need the confidence to prevent avoidable incidents, respond proportionately when risk increases and support meaningful learning after an event.
People supporting people.
This programme is designed for staff supporting adults, children or young people whose distress or behaviour may create foreseeable risk.
It is relevant to teams working across education, social care, mental health, learning disability, autism and complex-care settings.
From understanding to confident practice.
